Most of us may have suffered from photo loss from camera memory card, such as SDHC card, SD card or CF card. And the reasons for data loss are various: accidental deletion, memory card formatting, or memory card corrupted error in the camera.
I have many experience about photo loss in camera. Now I would like to share some tips which can help you prevent photo loss from camera memory card based on my experience.
1.Before you use the card in the camera, you had better format your cards in the camera(not the computer). Formatting can recreate the “file system” on the card and make it less likely that the card will lose track of where your images are stored.
Remember: Formatting will clean all data on the card! Thus before you do formatting, you need to check and make sure that you have already backup those data to another form of media.
2.Avoid deleting pictures while you are still shooting. If you are used to delete pictures in camera, it will increases the chances of an accidental “Delete All”. you can prepare extra cards in daily shooting, then you don’t have to worry about running out of memory, and if you have to do deletion for photos, you can connect the memory card to computer and do it in computer. You can watch the pics more clearly and perform more correctly, although you do a wrong deletion, you still can get back deleted photos from recycle bin.
3.Keep your cards in a protective plastic case. When we buy a memory card, usaully there are a special case that is provided by the manufacturer. This case is make for prevent pressing, shaking, or other physical impact to the memory card. you know, memoery card is one kinds of precious eletronic digital product which is easy to be harm. A good protected case can reduce the possibility of unexpected physical harm. but you can also buy inexpensive ones that hold multiple cards if you carry a lot of memory card.
4.Turn off your camera before removing the memory card. It seems like we need to do safe unplugging when we disconnect memory card in computer. When the care are still in the camera, the data trasfer are still working. If you unplug the card when the camera is still on, it is easy to cause memory card corrupttion.
5. Choose the compatible memory card, don’t just choose the bigger. As the development of tech, memory card become a standard product, and cheap. It is easy for you to buy a biggest card. However, it doesn’t mean the bigger is the better.
6.Replace your camera battery before it runs all the way down. If the camera shuts off while writing to your card, you could experience data loss.
